Honesty and Motherhood are My Favorite Combination {a giveaway}

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: being a mom is friggin' hard work.

And I'm a firm believer in the notion that the mom of the 1950's, with her perfect everything,
 simply doesn't exist.
However, this precedent she seems to have set has left mothers everywhere crying and feeling as though they simply aren't enough. And I don't know about you, but I'm just not that okay with that.

Instead, I prefer for us just to be honest about how hard this job is and support each other in the trenches, while we are covered in spit up, surrounded by dirty clothes,
and in desperate need of....oh, I dunno...a shower.

And really the only thing I love more than honest conversations about motherhood is honest memoirs about motherhood.

Friends, I'd like to introduce you to my real life friend, Robin O'Bryant.

When I tell you that Robin is seriously one of the funniest people I've ever met, what I really mean is, I almost wet my pants and sprayed Diet Coke out of my nose in her kitchen while sharing birthing stories one night while we gorged ourselves on the most divine shrimp dip ever created.

She's real and honest and real honest.
And she literally makes me laugh out loud.

Oh, and did I mention she's an author?

Not only that, but she's a cool author.
(Note: I totally swiped this picture from her facebook page because how cool it would it be to purchase this book and find it was signed by the author. And how cool is the author who does this?!? Love it. Please also feel free to notice that sister friend is wearing Noonday. I spy with my little eye at least two pieces in this picture. The girl has good taste AND can write.)

And oh, her book.
With memoirs with titles like 'Boob Sweat' and 'Awkward Naked Moments', how could you not love it?

She loves Jesus, loves her husband, and loves her little girls to the moon and back.

And I found her book to inspiring, relatable, and hilarious....all at the same time.

And, because we need just one more reason why Robin is awesome, she'd like to give a copy of her book to one of you. Oh, and she'll sign it for you. Make that two more reasons why she's awesome.

All you have to do to win is leave a comment on this post.
Perhaps tell me about one of your own funny moments as a mom.
Or one lie you tell yourself in terms of motherhood (my personal favorite is that just because I don't eat broccoli is no excuse for me not to force my kids to eat it. That's fair, right?).
Or just tell me why you'd like to read Robin's book.
I'll choose a winner on FRIDAY, so hop to it.

And if you'd like to get to know Robin a little better, check out her website or her oh so funny blog.

And just for the record, the thoughts and opinions presented here are all my own. Robin did not have to pay me to honestly say that she's all kinds of funny and talented.

  1. We laugh when the girls are playing and all of a sudden one of them toots out loud! It's not so funny when they toot out loud during church or at Wal-Mart and then announce "I pooted"! Like nobody heard it in the first place! I promise I am trying to teach my daughters manners! Just wish they weren't so cute when they do disgusting things!

  2. This sounds like a book i would love {and quite possibly relate too}! I think one of my awesome mom stories is the time i went to walmart and had just finished nursing...im grabbing some milk and bread and notice im getting a lot of attention. I had been working hard on getting at least a fraction of my pre-baby #2 body back and thought, "Man, im really starting to look good". Here i am strutting my stuff thinking i may be one of those hot mommas and could moonlight on desperate housewives or something. (I may have been even singing a fergie song in my head). Anyway, Im full of self confidence, thinking, wow- these guys are like staring, i relaly must look good" well, until the sweet clerk tells me my shirt is half unbuttoned down to my belly button and my [more than large nursing] girls were out for public display! So much for one hot momma...

  3. I think all mom stories are funny and I love talking about motherhood so that is why I would like to read her book. But the moments in motherhood that make me smile are when the boys are sweet to each other & ask about each other. I love when they learn something new or tell a joke. It is hard to be a mom - so hard but my favorite thing to do in life. love you McCall!

  4. Sounds like the perfect book for a mom in need of some comic relief (uh, all of us?). I will definitely check out her website and book. A memorable mom-moment for me: one summer we were selling our home, so my husband and i would take turns vacuuming and "staging" everything pretty much every day. one day, my husband took off his shirt when he was vacuuming because it was SO hot! i later found out that my daughter relayed the scene to her teacher much differently - "my daddy vacuums naked." kids, they keep it real, and i love mine for it.

  6. Pick me, pick me! (pretty please). Motherhood is hilarious because we have to invent all sorts of weird rules just to survive. My new house rule for today was "We don't scramble our family" after the 3 year old's threat to her little brother was, "I'm going to scramble you like a crab!" I had no clue what this meant, but he understood the threat perfectly and ran off screaming.

  7. I cannot wait to read Robin's book! I completely agree with you on your 'support each other in the trenches' comment.
I really want to read her book because it is so very helpful to identify with other parents, remember that I am not alone, and that my kid really is pretty 'normal' ;)

  8. We had been home from having baby girl for about 4 months. She had been asleep for a while and everything was quiet. Husband and I had been just hanging out. I looked at him and said lets go to walmart and hopped up ready to go! He looked at me and said.... You are forgetting about someone!!! Terrible mom award! Neh! Best baby award! Motherhood means giving yourself a lot of grace.
